Call
for Papers
CYD readers and would-be writers with environmental passion, dip your
pens into the well, boot up your computers. For our winter 2002 issue
we are seeking articles that demonstrate the efficacy at youth/adult partnerships
directed toward preserving, reclaiming, and promoting the best possible
stewardship of our environment. We are interested in efforts that think
globally or bio-regionally but act locally. Ideally, we would like articles
that illustrate partnerships among youth, local schools, and community-based
environmental groups--i.e., practices that embrace the CYD framework as
a method for promoting environmental stewardship. We also seek articles
from youth and adults that address the need for youth connection at the
scientific and spiritual level to the natural world. As always, submissions
must illustrate good practice, sound research, and solid theory as pertaining
to our theme.
As you ponder possibilities consider some of the following questions:
- How can we
best prepare out youth for stewardship of our planet?
- What can young
people learn from a close, intimate association with the natural world?
- Aside from
the obvious health and food considerations are there other benefits,
such as aesthetic and spiritual, to building environmental stewardship?
- Is there a
role for urban youth? How can they reclaim and enhance the urban environment?
- How can we
promote and preserve environmental justice?
- What actions
are necessary for us, as citizens, to gain control over stewardship
of the environment.
As always we are looking for "out of the box" thinking that
includes consideration of race relations, social justice, privilege, and
poverty.
