The Five Pilot Projects for the GMIWW

  • Nova Scotia: Tusked and Barrington Rivers. Students will employ oral history, community development, water measurements, and environmental impact methods to understand past usage of the river watersheds and explore sustainable future uses.

  • New Brunswick: Eastern Charlotte Watershed. "Our Watershed Novices in Training," a watershed hands-on approach for scientific learning, will be fully developed and institutionalized in local schools.

  • Maine:Webhannet, Little and Merriland Rivers. Environmentally-based service-learning projects related to marine ecology and beach erosion processes will be expanded; students will collect, analyze and disseminate scientific data related to the local watersheds.

  • NewHampshire: Lamprey River Watershed. Students and adults will design and implement a wide range of community watershed projects, including a watershed week celebration.

  • Massachusetts: Muddy River (Boston). Roxbury Science Workshop , an urban after-school program dedicated to the institutionalization of an action-oriented watershed educational culture, will provide opportunities for learning academic content, self-reliance, inventiveness, and social interaction.
