Things YOU Can Do To Support Youth In Governance

Summer 1999, v15-3

If you have 3 days:

  • Organize a Youth Speakout where youth and adults talk about the power of youth voice. Invite community members and policy makers.
  • Host a training for youth and adults about how to serve together on boards and councils.

If you have 3 hours:

  • Write a letter to the editor about how young people should be involved more in community decision-making.
  • Write a letter to your representatives in Congress, asking them to get input from young people when they vote on policies that affect youth.

If you have 3 minutes:

  • Invite some young people to your next staff meeting or board meeting to offer feedback.
  • Refuse to attend meetings unless young people will be participating or make your participation conditional on being able to bring young people with you.
