What is New Designs for Youth
Development? New Designs for Youth Development is a quarterly publication dedicated to voicing progressive, humane, and caring approaches to the development of youth and community. It is the only periodical whose focus is Community Youth Development (CYD). New Designs is published by the National Network for Youth. OUR VISION is to be a catalytic force in bringing together those engaged in all aspects of CYD work, and influencing policy makers at the local, regional, and national levels. OUR HOPE is that New Designs features, columns, and themes effectively translate the CYD vision into action; promote dialogue about key issues; and teach critical community-building and organizational skills. OUR CHALLENGE is to define issues in new paradigm terms--to move away from blaming youth or fixing problems to seeking solutions. Our Readers The 20,000 readers of New Designs are a diverse cross-section of people: youth and community workers; policy makers; politicians; activists; academics; researchers; parents; and youth. They work in not-for-profit agencies; foundations; government agencies; schools; in the private sector; and for themselves. But they share one important commitment: they value youth.
