Guidelines for Manuscript Preparation

The editors at CYD Journal welcome manuscripts that contribute to the understanding of theory, research, and practical program applications pertaining to youth and community development. We encourage contributions from concerned young people as well as from adult practitioners, policy makers, educators, researchers, and volunteers. For more information about submitting articles contact Della Hughes at the Institute for Just Communities

It is CYD Journal's mission to serve as an intentional voice to promote a holistic view of youth and community development; provide knowledge, impetus, and confidence to growing youth development learning communities; and advocate and promote youth participation in all areas of community life. We welcome multidimensional articles that include sidebars, photos, art work, poetry, tables, graphs, and/or illustrations. Editorial content will promote the core CYD values of youth/adult partnerships, participation, diversity, democracy, and social action. We are also interested in publishing opposing viewpoints.

Types of Articles
  1. Promoting and modeling CYD values

  2. Applying research to practice, and vice-versa

  3. Promoting dialogue

These topics can be addressed in a variety of formats, including feature articles, columns (see below), and interviews. We are particularly interested in program profiles that help readers answer the following important questions:

  • What did the profiled program staff do that led to their success? What were the challenges?

  • What are the implications of their findings to other programs?

  • How can I apply the described practices to my work?

  • How can research be applied to practice, and vice versa?

  • How can we promote dialogue to build bridges between divergent viewpoints?

  • What can youth tell us about programs that work, their hopes, and their dreams?

  • In addition, can you provide some evidence of program authenticity; i.e., recent evaluation reports, awards, or formal recognition of excellence?
